29 CFR 1910.138(a): Employers did not select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes:        a.     Laminating area: On March 11, 2015, employees were exposed to liquid acetone (100%) while cleaning tools and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) while mixing and applying chemicals to the inside of a boat.  Gloves that were resistant to both acetone and MEKP were not provided to employees to prevent skin contact with the chemicals during those processes.

29 CFR 1910.138(b): Employer failed to base the selection of the appropriate hand protection on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the hand protection relative to the tasks to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the hazards and potential hazards identified.        a.     Laminating area: On March 11, 2015, employees were exposed to liquid acetone (100%) while cleaning tools and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) while mixing and applying chemicals to the inside of a boat.  The employer did not accomplish an adequate PPE assessment for hand protection resulting in gloves that were not resistant to both acetone and MEKP were provided to employees.
