Employees such as the orthodontic assistants and sterilizers used and were exposed to chemicals such as the GC America coe tray cleaner (containing ingredients including but not limited to 46% sodium carbonate and 2.5% disodium metasilicate), Sanifect-128 disinfectant (containing dimethyl benzyl and dimethyl ethyl benzyl ammonium chloride), Cavicide disinfectant (containing 10-20% isopropanol & up to 5% ethylene glycol monobutyl ether), Long-Life Activated Dialdehyde Solution ( containing 2.5% glutaraldehyde), Dedeco abrasive/grinding wheel(s) (which may produce hazardous components such as aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide and titanium dioxide during use), Great Lakes Orthodontics silver solder, and Great Lakes Orthodontics flux (containing 20-30% Sodium Bi-Fluoride). The written hazard communication program must address the following elements in 29 CFR 1910.1200(f), (g), and (h): 1) Requirement for labeling of containers of hazardous chemicals; 2) Safety Data Sheet availability; 3) Training of employees; 4) A complete list of hazardous chemicals known to be in the workplace; 5) Methods to inform employees of the hazards on non-routine tasks; and 6) Methods to inform other employer(s) of Safety Data Sheet availability; the labeling system; and any precautionary measures to protect employees.
