29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) On or about April 27, 2016, the employer failed to ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the #1 Medart Roll Straightener. Barrier guarding or interlocked doors were not in place to protect employees from the turning motion of the bar stock or the rollers of the equipment. b) On or about April 27, 2016, the employer failed to ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the #3 Medart Roll Straightener (finish). Barrier guarding or interlocked doors were not in place to protect employees from the turning motion of the bar stock or the rollers of the equipment. c) On or about April 27, 2016, the employer failed to ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the #3 Meeco Roll Straightener (far east). Barrier guarding or interlocked doors were not in place to protect employees from the turning motion of the bar stock or the rollers of the equipment. note: All equipment in the above instances contain emergency trip wires. Emergency trip wires are not a form of machine guarding applicable to protect the employee from the cited hazards.
