29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered: (a) At Tampa Electric Power Plant, SR 37, Mulberry, FL 33860. Employees were checking/purging the valve on the vac tanker after the initial cleaning that originally carried sulfuric acid (93%) without wearing chemical protective pants and was splashed by the sulfuric acid that was left in the valve. This resulted in one of the employee suffering chemical burns on his left thigh and he had to be hospitalized on or about 04/01/2016.

29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards were present, or were likely to be present, which necessitated the use of personal protective equipment: (a) At Tampa Electric Power Plant, SR 37, Mulberry, FL 33860. Employees were checking/purging the valve on the vac tanker after the initial cleaning that originally carried sulfuric acid (93%) without employer assessing that there is a potential of a splash hazard from sulfuric acid that remained in the valve. This resulted in one of the employee suffering chemical burns on his left thigh and he had to be hospitalized on or about 04/01/2016.
