Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burn hazards:  (a) On or about August  19th, 2016 for the employees who suffered burn injuries from a mixture of hot molasses and vegetable oil that spilled over the tank to a lower level while transferring the approximately 260 degree mixture from the cooker tank to the vacuum tank, located at 1004 South Street in Whitewood, South Dakota.  Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to implement effective engineering and administrative controls to protect employees from exposure to overflowing or expansion of hot molasses as it is transferred from one tank to another.
