OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to being struck and crushed by falling machinery parts. a) Jobsite excavation: The head of a foundation pile drill was not adequately supported during disassembly and fell to the ground. Employees who were assisting with the disassembly on the ground in and around the machine were exposed to being struck and crushed by falling machinery parts. On or about 09/29/17. Abatement Note: among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: Follow "Operation and Maintenance Manual" for Davey Drill DK 725, under "IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE for MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE OPERATIONS", and under "PREPARATIONS FOR WORK", item 3, which states: "When disassembling or assembling, support the equipment with blocks, jacks, or stands before starting to work."
