29 CFR  1926.501(b)(1):Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems:  (a) Grangaard Construction, Inc. at SD Highway 20, Camp Crook, SD 57724:  On or about and at times prior to May 18, 2021, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from falls while conducting bridge removal activities.  Employees were removing bridge components from the top of the pier cap and not utilizing fall protection systems.  This condition exposed employees to fall hazards greater than six feet.  Grangaard Construction, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1268591, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on February 13, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at Exit 98 I-29 & SD Highway 115, Dell Rapids, SD 57022.
