29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.  a.  On or about August 11, 2022, the employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to protect the operators and machine helper employees in the machine area from hazards created by the point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts of the straightener rolls, shear, slitter, scrap winder, slitter table, and re-coiler of the Cincinnati Slitter Machine Line, known as the "Front Slitter".  Operators and machine helpers are exposed to machine hazards when gauging and measuring the steel, removing cut offs from the shear, working near the scrap winders, operating the re-coiler controls, and placing cardboard pieces in the re-coiler.      b.  On or about August 11, 2022, the employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to protect the operators and machine helper employees in the machine area from hazards created by the point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts of the straightener, slitter, shear, and scrap winders of the Cincinnati Loop Slitter Machine Line, known as the "Back Slitter".  Operators and machine helpers are exposed to machine hazards when gauging and measuring the steel, removing cut off ends from the shear, and working near the scrap winders.        c.  On or about August 11, 2022, the employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to the protect the operators and machine helper employees in the machine area from hazards created by the point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts of the pinch rolls, leveler rolls, and shear of the Voss Leveler Line No. 2, known as "Voss 2".  Operators and machine helpers are exposed to machine hazards when winching [stringing] steel through the pinch and leveler rolls and point of operation of the front and back of the shear when gauging and measuring the steel.    d.  On or about August 11, 2022, the employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to the protect the operators and machine helper employees in the machine area from hazards created by the point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts of the pinch rolls, leveler rolls, shear, and conveyor belts of the Voss Leveler Line No. 3, known as "Voss 3".  Operators and machine helpers are exposed to machine hazards when winching [stringing] steel through the pinch and leveler rolls, point of operation of the front and back of the shear when gauging and measuring the steel, and the conveyor belt when stacking the steel.  e.  On or about August 11, 2022, the employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to the protect the operators and machine helper employees in the machine area from hazards created by the point of operation and ingoing nip points of the shear of the Voss Leveler Line No. 4, known as "Voss 4".  Operators and machine helpers are exposed to machine hazards of the front and back of the shear when gauging and measuring steel.
