29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.  On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure that one or methods of machine guarding was provided to protect the operators of the two drill press machines from hazards created by the point of operation and rotating parts of the machines.

29 CFR  1910.217(c)(1)(i):It shall be the responsibility of the employer to provide and insure the usage of "point of operation guards" or properly applied and adjusted point of operation devices on every operation performed on a mechanical power press. See Table O-10.  a.  On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure point of operation guarding was properly applied to the point of operation of the Blow Press Co, mechanical power press, known as "Punch Press 1".    b.  On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure point of operation guarding was properly applied to the point of operation of the Brown-Boggs 4L mechanical power press, known as "Punch Press 5".     c.  On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure point of operation guarding was properly applied to the point of operation of the mechanical power press, known as "Punch Press 4".    d.  On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure point of operation guarding was properly applied to the point of operation of the mechanical power press, known as "Punch Press 3".

On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure the flywheel of the Blow Press Co., mechanical power press, known as "Punch Press 1", located less than 7 feet above the floor was guarded.     b. 29 CFR  1910.243(c)(3):Vertical portable grinders. Safety guards used on machines known as right angle head or vertical portable grinders shall have a maximum exposure angle of 180 deg., and the guard shall be so located so as to be between the operator and the wheel during use. Adjustment of guard shall be such that pieces of an accidentally broken wheel will be deflected away from the operator.   On or about December 15, 2022, the employer did not ensure the Baur Vertical Portable Grinder Tool (Abrasive Wheel Portable Powered Tool), also known as a right-angle grinder, was provided with a guard located between the operator and the wheel.
