29 CFR 1910.22(d)(1): Walking-working surfaces were not inspected, regular and as necessary, and maintained in a safe condition:  On or about May 18, 2023, employees were exposed to trip and fall hazards when walking along areas as follows:   a. At the control tower's stairway area. The anti-skid rubber cover edge was broken in one of the steps.   b. At the bunker area, in front of the washing machine. There was a 1-1/2 inches width gap between the 12 X 12 inches vinyl floor tiles, the length of the gap measures 29 inches.   c. At the bunker area, near the exit door.  There was a 2-1/4 inches width gap between the 12 X 12 inches vinyl floor tiles, the length of the gap measures 5 feet.  NOTE: Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer prior to notice issuance.

At the electrical room area. Two electrical service panels were blocked by two portable Rigid vacuums and a round step stool.   b. At the bunker's storage area. One electrical service panel was blocked by a two-wheel hand truck and a two-step stool ladder.  NOTE 1: FAA-St Thomas ATCT was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1412677, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 11-21-2019, with respect to a workplace located 1 John Brewers Bay, St. Thomas, VI.   NOTE 2: Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer prior to notice issuance.
