29 CFR  1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes.  a.) On or about September 23, 2204, in the ECO Department, the employer did not  enforce the use of thermal gloves for the Nordson ALTABlue Series Melter (Serial #NC15B0785) located on converting machine A055, to prevent burns to the employee's hands from exposure to 300 degree Fahrenheit glue when adding bags of glue to the tank.

29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.  a) On or about October 10, 2024, in the ECO Department, the employer did not ensure the glue module for converting machine A055 was guarded to prevent employees who work near the glue module from coming into contact with the hot glue at the glue head dispensing heads ( 117-196 degrees Fahrenheit), thereby exposing employees to thermal hazards, such as but not limited burns to the hand.
