An employee dismounted a forklift to dump a hopper of scrap wood into a grinder stockpile area. He braced his left palm on the outside of the forks, which placed his left pinky in the path of the hopper channels where the forks were pre-positioned. When he moved the level to dump the hopper, the weight caused the hopper edge to drop and crush his left pinky fingertip, which had to be surgically amputated.
