On April 26, 2023, at 4:00 PM, a maintenance technician was performing visual checks near a purger. The employee used a wrench to rotate the valve toward the open position and anhydrous ammonia released from the valve and was inhaled by the employee. The employee sustained chemical burns to the chest with difficulty in breathing.
