Before the incident

Injured employee (EE) was working as a frame welder at the time of the injury while also training a new hire Right before lunch the new hire had left the area so the EE conducted a die change operation to set the frame welder up with the correct fixtures for the next production run As the EE was removing one of the dies (weighing approximately 155lbs) they experienced a popping sensation in their lower right back hip and felt pain radiate down their right leg into their foot They completed the process and went to lunch but before returning continued experiencing the pain and made the decision to report to the EHS office and request a medical evaluation
