Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the load should the below the hook lifting device fail: a)Chip Spinning Area, on or about 03/27/02: Below the hook device for dumping metal chips had no rated load capacity markings, no initial, frequent and periodic inspections performed. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method of abatement is to: Mark the lifting device with the rated load capacity, conduct frequent and periodic inspections as per ANSI B30.20-1993. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
