29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A): Respirators with tight-fitting facepieces were worn by employees who had facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interfered with valve function: (a) Douglass Colony Group Inc, at 200 East Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO: On or about 5/14/13, Douglass Colony Group Inc did not ensure that respirators with tight-fitting facepieces were not worn by employees who had facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interfered with valve function. Employees removed copper panels from the Colorado state capitol dome. Caulking adhered to the copper panels. The caulking was determined to contain approximately three percent chrysotile asbestos. The employer required the employees to wear 3M model 8210 N95 filtering facepiece respirators while removing the copper panels with caulking. Two employees had facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face. The employer did not ensure that all employees required to wear respiratory protection were clean shaven. This condition potentially exposed employees to a respiratory hazard.
