29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems.      Employees were cleaning up debris from sandblasting activities and were exposed to a fall hazard and none of the fall protection systems specified above was used.  a)      An employee was on the bridge shoulder directing the vacuum hose, leaning over the concrete barrier was exposed to a fall hazard because the barrier was approximately 32 inches high.   b)      An employee on a bridge pier talking to another employee on the bridge shoulder was exposed to a fall hazard because no fall protection was being used.       Venus Painting Co. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.501(b)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 534478, citation number 1, item number 6 and was affirmed as a final order on October 31, 2012, with respect to a workplace located at Route 12 over the Kankakee River Contract #66B44, Aroma Park, IL 60910.
