29 CFR  1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area.  Building 886: On and/or before July 28, 2023, employee(s) conducted battery maintenance on electric forklift(s). The employer did not ensure employee(s) were trained on the specific requirement(s) when refilling the battery compartment that contained Sulfuric acid. This condition potentially exposed employee(s) to skin, eye, and/or reactive exothermic explosive hazard(s).

29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).  Building 886: On and/or before July 26, 2023, the employees conducted forklift battery preventative maintenance by adding deionized water to the battery compartment on a monthly basis. The employer did not ensure a hazard assessment was conducted to identify workplace hazard(s) conducting battery preventive maintenance to establish the appropriate PPE to be worn. This condition potentially exposed employee(s) to skin, eye, and/or reactive exothermic explosive hazard(s).
