29 CFR  1910.36(b)(1):Two exit routes. At least two exit routes must be available in a workplace to permit prompt evacuation of employees and other building occupants during an emergency, except as allowed in paragraph (b)(3) of this section. The exit routes must be located as far away as practical from each other so that if one exit route is blocked by fire or smoke, employees can evacuate using the second exit route.  a.  On or about January 2, 2025, employees worked in building 46, performing required production and maintenance duties with only one exit route from work areas on elevated floors of the building. Normal production activities associated with the 9228 process include the use of flammable liquids, with potential generation of flammable vapor during releases from the covered process. Operators work throughout the second, third and fourth floors on a daily basis, with only a single stairway providing a pathway to the ground floor exits from building 46.
