U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION

An employee was sitting in a vehicle at a border checkpoint when the vehicle was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. The employee sustained a concussion as well as rib and vertebral fractures and was hospitalized.

A border agent trainee was tracking people through a ranch. He became overheated, developed cramps, and was hospitalized, suffering from heat-related illness and dehydration.

On May 1, 2022, at 9:15 p.m., an employee was in an ATV accident, resulting in rib fractures and a possible clavicle fracture.

A border patrol agent was hiking down a hill in pursuit of someone. The agent stepped into a hole and fell downhill, stopping about 20 feet below. The agent suffered a broken left tibia and fibula and was hospitalized, requiring surgery.

A Customs and Border Patrol agent was riding an ATV on a dirt road. He lost control at a corner and jumped from the ATV, hitting a boulder and suffering a shattered lower-back vertebra.

An employee was transporting a patient to their residence. The employee bent down to grab a stretcher and felt a pop in their back. The employee sustained a herniation of their L4-L5 disc.

On November 18, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., an employee was loading products onto a delivery truck. The employee lost footing and sustained a torn hamstring and a hematoma with nerve damage to his foot/leg.

An employee was carrying a pipe when it slipped from their hand. As they reached to grab it while it was falling, they felt a muscle pull. The employee was hospitalized for an abdominal hernia.

On August 21, 2023, an employee was reaching for product on the shelf in the cooler when their back gave out. The employee was hospitalized for an exacerbation of bulging disks.

An employee was vacuuming the inside of a used car when they sustained a lower back strain during the repetitive work, requiring hospitalization.

An employee was activating the sprinkler system at a sports complex following recent maintenance to repair leaky pumps. When the system was activated, a section of newly installed 3-inch schedule 80 PVC pipe struck the employee, who lost consciousness. The employee suffered a broken jaw and a concussion.

An employee was ascending a flight of stairs after exiting their vehicle in an adjacent employee parking lot. The employee stepped to the right to avoid another employee on the left who was descending the stairs. The employee lost their balance and fell on the stairs. They were hospitalized with a laceration/abrasion to their chin, a fractured left humerus, and bruising to their left knee.

An employee was working on an electrical panel in a mechanical room when an arc flash occurred. The employee suffered burns.

At about 3:10 p.m. on October 3, 2025, an employee was inspecting a car. Two dogs that had been in another car were leashed and tethered to a bollard. As the employee inspected the first car along with a narcotics detection dog, one of the other dogs came loose and attacked the narcotics dog. The employee was separating the dogs when the other dog bit his left ring finger. The last joint of the finger was injured and part of it was bitten off.

An employee was climbing a fixed ladder to perform maintenance in an attic. While unlocking the attic entry, the employee fell from the ladder more than 10 feet to the concrete below. The employee suffered a fractured hip, pelvis, tail bone, arm, and elbow, resulting in hospitalization and surgery.

On September 25, 2025, an employee climbed an aluminum extension ladder and was on top of the roof of a building She was walking around on the roof, inspecting and evaluating it. She was descending the ladder when the ladder slid to the right and twisted around as she hung onto it. She then fell 10-12 feet to the paved parking lot and the ladder landed on top of her. She sustained a fractured left collarbone, multiple other fractures, and had bruising to the left side of her abdomen.

At about 5:55 p.m. on August 9, 2025, an employee lost his footing while climbing an access ladder to a 12-foot-high spotlight platform. He fell about 9 feet to the ground, breaking eight ribs on the right side.

On August 1, 2025, an employee was preparing to initiate canine training when they were bitten by a dog on the neck and face.

An employee was completing an annual work capacity test. Later that night, the employee experienced severe pain in their left leg and was hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis and compartment syndrome in the lower left leg.

An employee was setting chains to secure a concrete barrier to a front-end loader. The chain became twisted and lost slack. The concrete barricade fell on the employee's left foot, causing a partial amputation to a toe.
