An employee was helping to remove a drill pipe from a hole. His right hand was on the stand of drill pipe while an iron roughneck operator retracted the equipment so it could be positioned out of the way. The iron roughneck operator swung the piece of equipment and struck the employee's right ring fingertip, amputating it.
