An employee was operating a vertical turret lathe that was rotating at approximately 22 RPM. While standing on an elevated work platform, the employee leaned over toward the lathe when his arm was struck by a rotating magnet that was attached to the lathe. This impact caused the employee to fall forward and become caught between the vertical turret lathe table chuck and the back of the turret wall. The employee suffered a lacerated spleen, fractured scapula, bruised brachial plexus, fractured ribs, and head lacerations. The lathe was equipped with a chip guard at the time of the incident.
