Pedestrian struck by forward-moving vehicle on side of road · Fractures

Federal OSHA recorded a severe workplace injury at Leeco Construction, 400 feet along East 25th Street to, CLAYMONT, DELAWARE 19703 on — Fractures, affecting the toes(s), toenail(s).

An employee was kneeling in the street beside a curb, holding an expansion joint in place while concrete was being poured. As the concrete truck pulled forward, its passenger-side front tire ran over the employee's feet. The employee suffered a fracture in the right little toe, damage to blood vessels in the left foot, and lacerations requiring five stitches to the toes on the left foot.

An employee was moving barrels to the left lane shoulder when they were struck by a car, resulting in a right leg fracture. The employee was hospitalized.

An employee was collecting trash on the curb when a vehicle drove onto the curb and struck the employee, resulting in skull fractures, a subdural hematoma, and a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

An employee was picking up tree limbs from the side of a road. A skid steer went out of control and pinned the employee against a chipper table. The employee suffered severe swelling, bruising, a broken kneecap, and a back injury.

MODERN DISPOSAL SERVICES INC

An employee was trotting down the shoulder of a roadway along side the garbage collection truck. As the truck approached a home that had trash out for collection, the employee moved toward the moving truck to retrieve his work gloves. As he reached for the work gloves, his right foot was positioned behind the rear outer dual tire which struck his ankle and fractured it.

An employee was cutting cabinet trim using a table saw when four fingers on his left hand were severed, resulting in hospitalization and amputation.

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

The injured employee was standing behind a table. She jumped out to scare another employee, but tripped and fell on the tile floor, injuring her right ankle/foot. She was hospitalized with a dislocated ankle that required surgery.

Cross Management Corp.

An employee was installing insulation in a wall when she tripped on a hole (12" deep) and fell, hitting her head on the concrete floor. The employee sustained fractures to her leg and wrist, and lacerations to her head. The employee was hospitalized.

STEEL STRUCTURES AMERICA INC

An employee was loading a 4-inch wooden door into a pickup truck when he felt a pop in his right side behind his shoulder blade. He was hospitalized later that day and underwent surgery, having suffered a collapsed right lung.

Trejo Concrete & Steel, LLC

An employee was operating a power drill when it slipped. The drill bit punctured the employee's hand and they were hospitalized.

Greggo & Ferrara, Inc.

A flagger was directing traffic flow in a highway work zone. They were standing approximately 1.5 feet behind the shoulder's demarcating line, next to and slightly behind a traffic drum. As they were directing traffic into and out of the driveway of a parking lot, a car attempted to get around a truck and struck the traffic drum, which subsequently struck the employee, who was thrown 15 feet and landed on top of concrete aggregate. The employee suffered pelvic and rib fractures, T10 and L3 vertebra fractures, and internal bleeding.

GREGGO AND FERRARA, INC.

An employee was troubleshooting a power washer in the field. Because there might have been water in its fuel, he brought it back to the shop and drained about a gallon of fuel from the tank into a plastic container. Some of the fuel spilled onto the floor and ignited. The employee was stomping out the fire when he lost his balance and tripped into a stool, which caused the plastic container to spill more fuel onto the fire. The employee's pants and shirt caught on fire, and he fell, abrading his knee while trying to get through the flames. As well as the knee abrasion, he suffered burns to the left leg and left lower quadrant of the torso. He was hospitalized.

CHRISTIANA CARE HEALTH SERVICES, INC.

An employee was backing up a tram (towing powered industrial equipment) to connect it to a trash bin. The employee's left forearm/wrist was caught and crushed between the tram and the bin. The employee was hospitalized.

An employee went to lift a carton and tripped on a different carton that was on the floor. She fell on the floor in the backroom and sustained a fractured right hip, and abrasions to her arm and knee. The employee was hospitalized and required surgery.
