An employee was part of a crew that was moving a spool of wire that was on a support stand with wheels. The employee was at the back, holding the spool back while the crew moved it down the off-ramp of a buck hoist. When the support stand moved from the ramp to the floor, the spool shifted and the pipe in the center of the spool came off the support stand and struck the employee's right thumb, resulting in a fracture and a laceration.
