Zero exposure was assumed for the 298 minutes that were not sampled.

An employee shaking out aluminum castings on the Herschal Knockout Machine was exposed to continuous noise at 1,931% of the permissible daily noise exposure (8-hour time-weighted average sound level of 90 dBA) or an equivalent sound level of approximately 111 dBA during the 182-minute sampling period.  The hearing protectors utilized by employees provided a NRR of 24 dB or an estimated 94 dBA under the ear protector.
