An employee picked up a plastic 10-gallon recycling bin and carried it over to empty it into the bunker. He walked back to his position holding the empty bin. While walking, he tossed the bin down to the floor from waist level. The empty bin bounced off the floor and tipped over, causing him to trip over the bin and fall on his left side. The employee sustained a fractured femur bone. The employee was hospitalized and required surgery.
The injured employee got out of his truck and began rotating the two-yard compactor by hand in order to position the can for service. While moving the compactor, the metal lid folded backward toward the employee's hands, crushing and fracturing his left index and middle fingers. He was hospitalized for surgery.
