An employee was removing a swing drive from an excavator. He had a lift strap wrapped around the swing drive and was attempting to lift the drive out of the machine. The strap was underneath a fitting and caused excessive pressure on the fitting, which caused the fitting to break off and hit his forehead. He suffered a fractured skull.
