A yard dog operator hooked up to the container and pulled it away from the dock as the forklift was exiting the container. The forklift fell between the container and the dock. As it was falling, the injured employee grabbed the overhead guard supports at the same time the forklift hit the steel ramp, amputating the right hand just above the wrist.
