An employee was working as a security guard. A trespasser had entered the hospital and was confronted by the police. A physical altercation occurred and the trespasser was inadvertently pushed into the employee causing them to fall to the ground and strike their head on the ground. The employee sustained a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

MERCY HOSPITAL

A security guard was responding to a call regarding an aggressive patient in the emergency room. The patient punched the employee in their face and chest. The employee left the patient's room and then became unresponsive due to cardiac arrest.

The injured employee was helping to detain an inmate. A security guard slammed the inmate on top of the injured employee. The employee sustained a back/neck injury.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital

An employee was registering a patient in police custody in an emergency department. The patient tried to escape, and police/security personnel bumped into the employee during the resulting scuffle. The employee fell and suffered a broken right tibia and fibula.

Karnes County Correctional Center

A corrections officer was working with others to restrain an inmate. During the takedown, the other officers and the inmate landed on the officer, who suffered a fracture to the right hip.

An employee tripped over a stool and fell on the floor, resulting in a left displaced mid-cervical femoral neck fracture.

The employee sustained a closed head injury, contusion of the cerebrum without loss of consciousness, and a closed fracture of the distal end of the right radius.

An employee was changing the spacing on a telehandler's forks. A fork slipped, and the employee's left index finger was caught between it and the mast. The fingertip was medically amputated at the first knuckle.

An employee was pulling down a broken skid with a forklift. When the employee backed up the forklift to get the forks out of the skid he pulled down, he contacted the forks of another parked forklift, fracturing both of his legs. He was hospitalized.

An employee was carrying cups back to the kitchen when her foot got caught on a cart and she fell face-first. During the fall, a piece of glass from a cup cut the inside of her mouth, severing an artery. She also sustained a laceration on her lower lip. The employee was hospitalized.
