What happened

A Saw Operator was cutting a 12 (l) x 5 8 (w) x 5 8 (h) solid aluminum bar into smaller pieces that measured 2 (l) x 5 8 (w) x 5 8 (h). The operator used an up-cut saw to cut the material operated by a lever that lifts the blade. The operator engaged the clamps down to hold the material. Once cut he released the clamps and since the piece was so small the operator reached over the plexiglass and grabbed it before the vacuum suctions it up. In doing so the operator still had their hand placed on the lever which he instinctively lifted as he grabbed the part. As a result the blade lacerated his left thumb.
